This was at the bottom of my last post, but you may not want to read my extended rant on the evils of electoral politics. So here are two ideas on what the left needs to plan for:

1) PR if there's a Tory minority government, and some form of proportional representation gets passed, we need to revisit the idea of a new socialist party at the federal level.

2) Defend Quebec if the Bloc Quebecois wins 50% of the vote as expected, and begins the referendum process, their right to take Quebec out of Canada must be vigorously defended. English-Canadian chauvinism is the stumbling bloc to left unity across Canada, allowing the Right to divide Quebec and First Nations nationalist forces, and anglo from francophone workers. We have to take a firm position: not pro-Bloc, but pro-independence, and pro-self determination for Quebec. Their attempt to smash the Canadian state, even from above, is a blow to the ruling class.
